1. Tell us about your role at VC Innovations – what do you actually do, and what’s the best part of it?
I’m a Senior Marketing Executive at VC Innovations, where no two days are the same. From being the “WordPress Wizard” to running impactful email campaigns, I thrive on new challenges, delivering my best for a brand and team I consider family.
From planning email campaigns to revamping websites for an optimal user experience, delivering exceptional bespoke events, and leading client-driven projects, my work revolves around creating top-notch marketing strategies that elevate the user, customer, and attendee experience.
The best part of my role is collaborating with the team, particularly within marketing. We each bring unique mindsets and diverse skill sets, often venturing beyond marketing into other fields. This creates a dynamic environment where conversation and collaboration are truly exciting. I love putting my expertise to the test and constantly questioning how we can make things better and more impactful.
2. What’s one unexpected skill (or completely random talent) you have that helps you at work?
I excel at maintaining focus in even the busiest and most chaotic environments. Whether it’s a bustling event venue or managing last-minute emails on a crowded train, I’m able to stay 100% focused and calm under pressure.
3. Explain ‘What VC Innovations does?’ – in 15 words or less.
VC Innovations is a full-stack marketing agency disrupting the industry by uniting professionals and delivering impactful experiences and campaigns.
4. If you could swap jobs with anyone in the company for a day, who would it be and why?
I could swap roles with anyone at VC Innovations, it would be Alicia Condon, our Head of Marketing. I’d love to experience her work first-hand and understand what it’s like to deliver top-tier campaigns from start to finish, all while looking ahead to the next project before the current one is even completed. Alicia’s leadership, commitment to advancing the field of marketing, and the time she dedicates to supporting others is truly inspiring.
5. Would you describe yourself as an AI expert, dabbler, or Sceptic?
In today’s world, we’re all sceptics at heart, but I believe combining scepticism with curiosity is the true definition of innovation. It’s about knowing your boundaries but having the courage to push past them, armed with knowledge and driven by strong partnerships.
6. AI + Me: How do you use AI in your role?
I use AI for various tasks, primarily as a third-party perspective when one isn’t available. Perplexity is a fantastic tool I use to gather relevant information from around the web. It rivals traditional search engines by providing only the most pertinent and useful information tailored to your needs. This helps eliminate wasted time sifting through irrelevant search results, allowing me to work more efficiently and build my knowledge quickly.
I also use AI on Canva for design. With the number of platforms and tools I use daily, finding the right one for specific design tasks can be time-consuming. Canva’s built-in AI feature has revolutionised the process, not only improving design workflows but also enabling seamless integration for websites and beyond.
7. Biggest win, biggest lesson, or funniest career fail – what’s something that’s shaped how you work today?
Here’s a little story for my fellow South Africans: A few years ago, while working at Africa’s biggest news agency, I had an unexpected encounter with the trade union director for mining after a live broadcast interview. Shocked by the surprise, I blurted out “howzit” and awkwardly scurried away. Despite feeling embarrassed, I couldn’t help but be proud of my instinctive, unified national response.
In terms of my ‘biggest win’, it has to be joining VC Innovations. I can’t overstate the value I’ve gained from this role, both professionally and socially. It’s a team that constantly pushes you to excel, providing lessons at a fast pace, but in a way that ensures rapid growth and development.
