Aasiya Merali, Operations Manager

1.     Tell us about your role at VC Innovations – what do you actually do, and what’s the best part of it?

As our Operations Manager, I sit behind the scenes to make sure our events run smoothly. I coordinate teams, handle logistics and ensure everything’s in place so we can deliver the best experiences for our attendees. The best part is watching everything come together after all the hard work and hearing the buzz post-event when it all clicks – it’s really rewarding!

2.     What’s one unexpected skill (or completely random talent) you have that helps you at work?

I’m really good at staying calm under pressure! Growing up with four siblings, I learned early on how to navigate chaos and stay level-headed. Whether it’s handling last-minute changes or dealing with unexpected challenges onsite at events, I’ve developed a knack for keeping things cool and finding solutions without getting flustered.

3.     Explain ‘What VC Innovations does?’ – in 15 words or less.

We build communities and bring people together, driving exciting change.

4.     If you could swap jobs with anyone in the company for a day, who would it be and why?

Someone in sales – probably Raffaella. Getting to chat with different companies and hear about their growth plans sounds so interesting. It’d be great to see how they make decisions and position themselves in the market.

5.     Would you describe yourself as an AI expert, dabbler, or Sceptic?

A dabbler! I use it often and see its potential, but I still like a human touch in the process.

6.     AI + Me: How do you use AI in your role?

I use AI for research, drafting ideas and organising data. It speeds up repetitive work and leaves more time to connect with suppliers, coordinate with the team and focus on getting the events running smoothly.

7.     Biggest win, biggest lesson, or funniest career fail – what’s something that’s shaped how you work today?

My biggest lesson is that nothing ever goes 100% to plan, and that’s okay. Events are always full of surprises, but the best problem-solving happens in the moment. Staying calm, creative, and ready to pivot is half the job!
